EDUCATION TO BECOME A SNOWBOARD INSTRUCTOR

The Snowboard Instructor Education in Austria is a legally regulated professional qualification for teaching snowboarding at a professional level.

The education is divided into several stages and ranges from 10 days Snowboard Anwärter (Level 1+2) to 27 days Snowboard Landeslehrer (Level 3), depending on the qualification level you wish to achieve.

The education is delivered by the Vienna Ski and Snowboard Instructors Association (Snowsports Academy). Upon successful completion, participants receive a recognised professional certificate that qualifies them to work as snowboard instructors in Austrian ski schools and in many other countries around the world.

After completing the Landeslehrer (Level 3) education, participants may also progress to advanced qualifications, such as the Diploma and State-Certified Snowboard Instructor programmes.

SNOWBOARD ANWÄRTER

The education pathway begins with the 10-day Anwärter (Level 1+2) course.. Upon successful completion of the Anwärter (Level 1+2) course, participants are qualified to work as snowboard instructors in a ski school.

The Snowboard Landeslehrer (Level 3) education is designed to prepare participants for the official Snowboard Landeslehrer final examination. FAQs

How long does the education last?

The basic education (Anwärter - level 2 course) lasts 10 days. The Landeslehrer (level 3) qualification consists of several modules and comprises a total of 27 days of education.

What language skills do I need?

The education and examination are offered in German or English; good knowledge of at least one language is recommended, especially for examination and teaching situations.

Is the qualification recognised throughout Austria?

Austria is divided into several federal states, each with its own ski school legislation, which may vary in interpretation and application. Despite these differences, an agreement exists between the state associations of the individual federal states that ensures the automatic recognition of Austrian German-language qualifications throughout the country.

As a result, the German-language education and examinations offered by the Vienna Ski and Snowboard Instructors Association (Snowsports Academy) are recognised in all Austrian federal states.

Examinations in English

The Vienna Ski and Snowboard Instructors Association (Snowsports Academy) is the only association in Austria that offers education programmes and examinations in both German and English.

Please note that some Austrian federal states require snow sports instructors to have sufficient German language skills. Employment in these regions is therefore only possible after successfully completing the examination in German.

We therefore recommend taking the examination in German if you intend to work in Austria.
