AUSTRIAN SKI AND SNOWBOARD INSTRUCTOR EDUCATION

The Snowsports Academy is the Vienna Ski and Snowboard Instructors Association – the official education provider under Vienna state law and a member of the Austrian Ski School Association (ÖSSV).

We educate ski and snowboard instructors for careers in Austria and around the world – from the 10-day Anwärter (Level 1+2) course through to the Landeslehrer (Level 3) examination.

Upon successful completion, participants receive a recognised professional certificate issued by the Vienna Ski and Snowboard Instructors Association – Snowsports Academy, qualifying them to work professionally in ski schools throughout Austria and in many other countries worldwide.

Education to become an Austrian ski instructor

10 days

Ski instructor Anwärter (level 1+2) ->

Snowboard instructor Anwärter (level 1+2) ->

 

Basic education in technique, methodology, and safety fundamentals. Qualifies to work in ski schools.

10 days

Landesskilehrer 1 (level 3 part 1) ->

 

Further development of personal skills and learning of various techniques - such as racing, off-road skiing, mogul skiing - as preparation for the Landesskilehrer 2 - level 3 part 2 education.

7 days

Alpine course ->

 

Education with a focus on skiing and guiding in open ski areas, as well as acquiring alpine safety skills.

10 days

Landesskilehrer 2 - level 3 part 2 ->

Snowboard Landeslehrer - level 3 ->

 

Final education phase with a state-administered Landeslehrer - level 3 examination.

HOW DO YOU BECOME A SKI OR SNOWBOARD INSTRUCTOR IN AUSTRIA?

The Austrian ski and snowboard instructor education pathway is clearly structured and follows a multi-level system. Each qualification level builds on the technical, practical, and teaching skills acquired in the previous stage, allowing for continuous professional development and progression.

The Snowsports Academy is the ski and snowboard instructors' association of Austria’s capital city, Vienna. Since its foundation in 1970, we have successfully passed on the quality and excellence for which the Austrian Ski and Snowboard School is renowned to our participants. Our education and demonstration team consists of more than 100 highly qualified ski and snowboard instructors. They are active on behalf of the Snowsports Academy for up to 240 days a year in numerous countries around the world.

The objective of our education programmes is the holistic development of our participants’ technical skills, personality, communication abilities, as well as their awareness of nature and body movement.
