The Austrian pavilion at ITB Berlin was the focal point for the start of a new era in the presentation of Austrian tourism. Astrid Steharnig-Staudinger, CEO of the Austrian National Tourist Office, emphasized the successful cooperation with numerous partners from the domestic tourism industry. Innovative on-site experiences, such as VR hot air balloon rides and a ski simulator, allowed visitors to experience the Austrian way of life from afar with all their senses.

Sustainability and winter tourism in focus

The focus of the Austrian presentation was on the key themes of sustainability and winter tourism, with a particular emphasis on the 2025 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Saalbach Hinterglemm. This event was seen as an opportunity to inspire a new generation of ski enthusiasts. Austria's pioneering role in sustainable tourism practices was underscored by impressive figures: 55 percent of the energy used in the tourism sector comes from renewable sources.

Pioneers in sustainability

The publication “Sustainability in Austria – Exemplary Tourism Projects,” produced in cooperation with the consulting firm SUSTAINIA, underscores Austria’s commitment to a sustainable future for tourism. The initiative aims to highlight those businesses and destinations that serve as beacons for the entire industry.

Sustainable mobility concepts as drivers of development

The importance of sustainable mobility concepts for the development of tourist destinations was particularly emphasized by Stefan Schnöll, Deputy Governor of Salzburg. Services that support the trend towards environmentally friendly mobility strengthen Salzburg's reputation as a top winter sports destination.

A look back at a successful performance

Austria's presence at ITB Berlin 2024 was an impressive demonstration of the country's innovative strength and commitment to sustainable tourism. With a clear vision for the future and the use of modern technologies, Austria set new standards in international tourism and reaffirmed its position as a leading tourist destination.
