Snowflash Episode 5: Heinz Palme
As General Coordinator of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Heinz Palme was Franz Beckenbauer's right-hand man. In this Snowflash interview, he talks about his upbringing in two ski-mad families and what connects winter sports with football.
With his book "The Emperor's General," Heinz Palme has fulfilled a lifelong dream. In it, the internationally renowned sports manager describes his career path and, above all, his six-year collaboration with Franz Beckenbauer for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The book's subtitle, which features forewords by Herbert Prohaska and Toni Innauer, also reveals Heinz Palme's winter side – "From ski jumper to playmaker in world football."

Ski jumping is deeply rooted in the family of this native of Styria. His grandfather was a world-class jumper, his father also a successful athlete, but for Heinz junior himself, a serious shinbone fracture while playing football at the age of eleven and a half brought his ski jumping career to an end. Nevertheless, his connection to the sport remained strong. Over the years, he maintained regular contact with legends like Toni Innauer, Hubert Neuper, and Andi Goldberger, while simultaneously developing a very good friendship with coach Alexander Pointner.
Until the age of 16, Heinz Palme was also a competitive ski racer and has remained passionately devoted to the sport ever since. He has skied alongside numerous Austrian football legends. His impressive professional career spans over two decades in various roles at the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB), including serving as the chief coordinator for the Austrian government during EURO 2008. He is also known as a keynote speaker and for his own coaching and mentoring agency , Moving Palms .
