Snowsports Academy on the Day of Sport 2025: A sports festival of superlatives at Vienna's Heldenplatz

On September 20, 2025, Vienna's Heldenplatz was once again transformed into a giant sports arena. The Day of Sport , Austria's largest open-air sporting event, attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors to the capital for the 24th time – offering a program ranging from top-level sports and interactive activities to sustainable initiatives.

From the Hofburg Palace to the Heldenplatz, the enthusiasm for physical activity was palpable. At over 80 interactive stations, sports fans of all ages could get involved. National sports federations, clubs, and athletes presented themselves and offered exciting insights into their disciplines. The stars of the day weren't just Olympic and world champions, but above all the visitors, who worked up a sweat from morning till night.
State Secretary for Sport Michaela Schmidt summed it up perfectly: “The Day of Sport is much more than just an event; it’s a real highlight for sports fans of all ages. Visitors could try out over 80 sports, and around 100 local associations presented themselves.”
Snowsports Academy & Skiaustria Vienna - Vienna Ski Association: Skiing feeling in the heart of Vienna
The Snowsports Academy , in cooperation with SkiAustria Vienna – the Vienna Ski Association – also participated, bringing winter sports directly to Vienna's city center. A ski simulator allowed children and adults to put their slalom skills to the test. The turnout was enormous: from morning until evening, visitors lined up to carve through the slalom gates and chase the best time. This made winter sports tangible and whetted everyone's appetite for the upcoming season.
Show acts, awards and unsung heroes
In addition to the interactive stations, spectacular show acts thrilled the audience – from cheerleaders and dance groups to stunt shows. Austria's most successful athletes were honored on the main stage. A special highlight was the awarding of tree sponsorships as part of the "Tree Buddy" environmental project , which once again underscored the focus on sustainability in sports.
The unsung heroes of sport were also in the spotlight: The Volunteer Award was presented to officials and club members whose commitment creates the basis for success in both grassroots and elite sports.

Whether top-level sports, trend sports such as padel tennis or rope skipping, or sustainable initiatives – the Day of Sport 2025 impressively demonstrated how diverse and vibrant the sports landscape in Austria is.
For the Snowsports Academy it was a special pleasure to make skiing tangible in the heart of Vienna together with SkiAustria Vienna - Vienna Ski Association - and to see how much enthusiasm the ski simulator has generated among young and old.
