With crisp autumn weather and a strong message, Vienna Ski Connect kicked off its new season on September 23rd. The platform connects winter sports and business in Vienna – and presented itself at the kickoff event in a location that perfectly captures the spirit of the times: Stroke Minigolf in the 21st district. The new, handcrafted course can be booked digitally, requires virtually no staff, is equipped with floodlights, and is suitable for corporate events.
Vienna's city eagles make skiing history
Roland König, president of the Vienna Ski Association, gave an overview of current developments. The highlight: 17-year-old Meghann Wadsak became the first Viennese woman ever to score a World Cup point in ski jumping – a strong sign for competitive sports in the city.
Skiing in the heart of Vienna: The Hohe Wand Wiese model.
Urban snow sports were also a key topic . Thanks to special mats, skiing is taking place for the third time on the Hohen Wand meadow – regardless of snowfall. In the last two winters, around 5,000 children have been able to try skiing for the first time there. The aim is to expand the program to eventually enable year-round training for up-and-coming ski racers .
Snowsports Academy: Know-how for the city
Martin Dolezal , CEO of the Snowsports Academy , emphasized the potential that snow sports offer in urban areas . The Academy is the world market leader in indoor ski instructor training and is intimately familiar with the dynamics of such developments. According to Dolezal, children with a migration background, in particular, often show extraordinary enthusiasm during their first skiing experiences.
He cited the Danish capital, Copenhagen , as a prime example , where a ski slope was built on top of a waste incineration plant – a model that could also provide impetus for Vienna. According to Dolezal, snow sports remain a popular pastime with high economic relevance , especially in a metropolis like Vienna.
Andy Lee Lang and the look ahead
Andy Lee Lang , a Viennese musician and state ski instructor, was also present at the kickoff. He believes Vienna Ski Connect is a project with a future.
The program continues on October 21st at Nora Pure Sports with a talk show and a preview of the Vienna Ski Connect annual program. Further information about Vienna Ski Connect membership and the annual program can be found at https://www.skiaustria.wien/de/businessclub .
